Mom’s Guide to Spring Cleaning for the Whole Family

Ready to clean up around the house, but want a little help? Get the kids involved so you’re not doing all the work yourself.

Check out some of these spring cleaning chores that your entire family may enjoy.

Switch Out all of the Bedding

Strip the covers, sheets and pillowcases off of the bed and dust thoroughly around the bed and bedframe. Dust mites can hide anywhere and they can be a trigger for spring allergies.

Change out the sheets—try a new color that is brighter for spring or switch out the heavier comforter for a quilt or something lighter for the warmer days. A change in bedding can be exciting and a new addition to their room.

Have Fun in the Yard

Pick a sunny day to pull weeds and plant flowers. Everyone can enjoy this together, especially since it will be nice to get outside in the warm weather. Challenge the kids to see who can gather the most leaves or twigs, leftover from the winter. A little game can add a lot of fun to spring cleaning.

Mix Things Up When it Comes to Cleaning Supplies

Involving kids in baking and cooking can be fun, so why not try making these healthier cleaning alternatives together? They are more natural ways to clean your home and limit your exposure to chemicals, so they’ll be safe to make together.

Cleaning also means organizing.

Get Rid of Clothes

The kids are growing up fast, so it’s time to do an inventory of all the clothes in their closets and drawers. Spend some time letting the kids try on clothes and modeling them for you- that way you’ll know what fits and what they’ll actually like wearing.

Donate the clothes you need to get rid of – or store them in plastic bins that are labeled, in case you need hand me downs later for the younger siblings.

Take a Second Look at Old Toys

Make your kids get serious about what toys they still use and what they want to get rid of.

Make sure you scrub the toys they want to keep, even the tablets and game consoles, because they can get especially dirty.

Want to reward the entire family for cleaning up and getting rid of old things? Try a yard sale to sell unwanted clothes, toys and other item around the house. Maybe, the money earned can go towards a family outing or a new toy for everyone.
