5 Questions with Therapist, Tish Wakefield

Tish Wakefield, who has helped patients on LiveHealth Online Psychology since 2015, talked to us about her experience as a therapist and and her time working with LiveHealth Online.

After a career as a research scientist and working in the pharmaceutical industry, Tish earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Florida State University in 1999. In addition to MSW, she also earned a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College, a Master’s Degree from MIT, and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin Consortium.

We asked Tish 5 questions to get to know her and her experience on LiveHealth Online Psychology:

Q: Beyond your MSW, how does your additional education help in your practice?
I use my education quite a bit as a therapist. My time at a women’s college helps me understand how strengths can come from our environment. My training in the biological sciences helps me frame human problems as a part of life. My training as a researcher allows me to encourage my patients to explore themselves and experiment with measured change. My business education helps me assist patients with work and career stress, and helps me understand how innovative delivery systems can solve the problem of access to care.

Q: What are your areas of expertise?
A: I work with adolescents, adults, and couples, and I enjoy working with diverse patients from all walks of life. Using techniques from Eastern and Western psychology, I help clients increase awareness of how thoughts, feelings, and behavior help us survive and thrive. I help clients approach their problems with curiosity and a willingness to experiment with change.

Q: What attracted you to telehealth and LiveHealth Online?
A: Telehealth allows patients to be more comfortable during sessions. In telehealth, the patient gets to choose their setting. I love technology being put to good use.

Q: If you were talking to a consumer who was hesitant about using LiveHealth Online Psychology, what would you say to them?
A: LiveHealth Online Psychology providers are highly trained, experienced, and qualified.  We are a supportive professional community and provide each other with training, education, and resources.

Q: Outside of working, what would you like to share about your personal life?
A: I try to practice what I preach. I enjoy the natural world, get exercise, eat healthful foods, and get in touch with my body and emotions through yoga and meditation. I socialize with kind and inspiring people.
